I hated the 6th One Piece movie. I was *really* upset to see the crew so divided and fighting. It was more bearable to see them get separated on Sabody than to see them actually fighting for real. That part of the movie is what ruined the whole thing for me I guess…
I think what’s even worse is that this shitty sidecharacter gave the final blow to the bad guy ! I mean, seriously ?! It’s like the people who made this movie were so in love with their own (mary-sue) characters that they just forgot that it’s supposed to be about Luffy and his nakama ! NAKAMASHIP ! heeelllloooooo ?
I really liked that movie …until that crap ending.
just thinking about it makes me go shdfjkajsfkajssdjaknfjvdbnjkdnckasknjfs
hahahah
I personally really liked that bit. I think it’s a tad narrow-minded to assume it’s up to Luffy and crew to take care of everything, y’know?
The world of One Piece is full of characters, and they are all important in so many ways. They are all meant to fulfill important roles. If even one did not exist, the structure of the story would begin to falter.
I like that this movie broke the mold. And the guy didn’t necessarily defeat the big bad wolf, you know, but what he did was gather up the courage he had been lacking throughout the movie, and prove to his family that their Papa was brave, by killing the Lily Carnation. Sure it was the monster that everyone was afraid of, but it was just a tool. The bad guy was the Baron. Luffy defeated the Baron in the end, so technically this “shitty sidecharacter” did not do all the work. He just helped facilitate the victory for Luffy, who obviously could not defeat Lily on his own. I thought that was clear.
The whole point of the movies anyway is for them to be about a more concentrated cast, meaning Luffy and crew and a few other new characters. Sidecharacters are everywhere, but without them there’s no movie. It’s about the experiences of the crew with complete and total strangers.
I probably just ranted a lot, but I really dislike when people don’t give the minor characters their due just because they had bigger roles than people might want. It’s not all about the main characters.
If it was, it’d be Naruto. Or Bleach. But this is One Piece.

Ah yes, I do agree with you that it’s not always about the maincharacters, and sidecharacters are important, true. But it’s just that I couldn’t really get myself to like or relate to the characters in this movie in particular. (Though I gotta admit that it’s been some time since I’ve last seen it…) So that’s probably why I felt it was a bit out of place that the guy accomplished such an important task in the end. I mean it’s good that Luffy isn’t portrayed as sort of allmighty or invincible, that’s what I always loved about him. That he can be defeated but he still gets up each and every time. (which doesn’t really happen with Naruto, who always wins, it seems. at least up until that part when I stopped reading the manga. I dunno, hahah.)
Maybe I was exaggerating a bit when I commented on the confession earlier, but I just didn’t feel strongly about these characters at all, couldn’t help it :/.
But I get your point.
I should probably rewatch the movie, give it another chance, it’s been too long.
I haven’t watched this one in a long time myself, but that it focuses on relationships between characters and dealing with loss is what I like most about it, I guess.
I don’t particularly have any real attachment to the family or to Brief, but I still appreciate the development they went through in the movie.
One thing I can say, though, is I am very put off by Luffy’s careless way of brushing Brief off when he was talking about his own crew. I guess he became even more selfish because his crew was directly in danger? I don’t usually see him being this way, and that’s different, too, I guess.
